5 Top Tips to have a smooth wedding morning from a Pro MUA

It’s finally here. The day you’ve been waiting and planning for all year long. Now, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy all your hard work… Except the flowers are wrong, the groom can’t find his tie, or his best man for that matter, the panic is setting in and things feel like they’re starting to unravel. It doesn’t all have to go up in smoke though. Here are my 5 Top Tips to create the most flawlessly executed morning of your wedding day.

The biggest, and in my opinion, the most important is Tip #1

Appoint a specific person to be the question answerer/right hand person to handle all the small things that may come up. This may look like your Maid of Honor, your day of coordinator, or a close friend who isn’t in the main bridal party. Whoever it may be, have them be the point person to take the stress off of the bride. Especially while the bride is in the makeup chair, she can’t move and being bombarded with questions will only stress her out.

Tip #2 may seem small but

Give sentimental gifts and mementos at the beginning of the day. Carve out 20 minutes at the start of the morning to share feelings, gifts, and tokens of affection. Waiting until the bride is in the makeup chair to give her a scrapbook of your favorite lifelong memories is sure to make her (and me) emotional. This typically causes us to stop what were what doing or fix any tweaks that tears may have caused. Intentionally setting aside a few minutes to do this at the beginning of the day is a great way to make sure everyone has their moment to shower you with love.

It might be obvious to some, but Tip #3

Have breakfast AND lunch provided for you and your people. Small muffins and finger foods aren’t going to cut it when you have an entire morning-afternoon of getting ready, having mimosas, and giggling. Having something for lunch like Publix mini subs, CFA nuggets, or a homemade meal can ensure enough sustenance so that there’s no fainting bridesmaids walking down the aisle.

Tip #4 is an easy one

Tell your bridal party and groomsmen to arrive 10 minutes earlier than their scheduled time. Things happen and people are late, its okay! But if you’ve ever experienced a wedding day you know there is typically a strict timeline that all vendors are following. As a Professional Makeup Artist, my brides get a complimentary timeline to use as a guideline for the morning of to create an easy flow. Having your party members arrive early and ready is a great way to avoid any late fees and schedule hiccups.

Tip #5 is coming in HOT, literally

Appoint a specific person who isn’t in the bridal party to steam all dresses. Your Mother in Law with hot flashes who just had her makeup done probably shouldn’t be the one to do it, no matter how many times she keeps asking to help. I’ve seen too many hairstyles and makeup looks ruined because Sally turned into a steaming sweaty mess. This can be avoided by asking a family friend to come early so she can steam your dresses for you in another room. Especially if the bridal suite is a small space, the room will fill with humidity and then everyone is a steaming sweaty mess!

Secret Bonus Tip: Hire a Professional Makeup Artist like myself to help keep your morning running smoothly. Having a vendor with an upbeat, professional, lively personality to keep your morning moving along is crucial to a fun, stress-free morning. Hair & Makeup are usually the first vendors on site, so we essentially set the tone for the morning. There will be a big difference in your morning if you have a MUA with a bad attitude VS. a MUA with a positive, friendly attitude who vibes with your bridal party.
